Defense of Prostitution Charges
There may be one or more defenses available in your cases. These include lack of probable cause for the investigation, entrapment, inadmissible evidence, procedural errors by the police and others. Our attorneys will review all possible defenses. If there is a potentially successful means of defense available, we will find it — the goal being a dismissal of the charge or acquittal. In some cases, it may make sense to seek a negotiated plea (perhaps to a lesser charge) that limits the penalties you incur.
Cates, Hanson, Sargeant & Schoenau, PLC will work with energy and determination to obtain a favorable outcome for you.
Prostitution Penalties
A first time prostitution offense is a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by 15 days to six months in jail, and up to $2,500 in fines. Penalties increase for every subsequent violation. A person who has previously been convicted of three or more prostitution violations and who commits another violation is guilty of a class 5 felony, shall be sentenced to 180 days to 2.5 years in prison. Probation or suspension of penalty is not allowed. Other prostitution charges can result in similar penalties.
